of fresh air blow past him. Even though he very rarely came outside, he liked the feeling. That sunny, bright kind of feeling that people sing about in Broadway musicals, though he would never admit that and the scowl on his face gave off the exact opposite feeling to an innocent passerby. He smoothed down his hair, aimlessly walking towards the Forbidden forest. He leaned himself against a rather large oak tree, one foot kept on the ground, the other pressed against the trunk of the tree. He had never visited the forest during the day, but something had led him here, just one of those annoying little voices that made you want to shoot yourself. He never understood why this place was forbidden in the first place. Was the scary dirt going to attack you? [/ul]

A rumbling stomach was what woke James Potter that morning. He opened his eyes and heard a loud groan from his belly. Patting it softly he sat up in bed to see that the dorm was empty. That was nice, they'd all gone down without him. He pulled on a white t shirt with a muggle logo on that Jamie had been told was very fashionable in the muggle world. Hermione Granger had given it to him for his 15th birthday but Jamie couldn't see the grandeur in a black tick.
He exited the 6th year dorms and Gryffindor tower after donning a pair of black jeans and a pair of black shoes that muggles wore when skateboarding. Again, Jamie found it fascinating but was not sure what fun muggles got out of riding planks of wood on wheels. It looked dangerous though and danger appealed to James.
He sat down at the Gryffindor table for breakfast with his younger brother who didn't look quite happy at his appearance so James stayed there glad that it was winding Albus up. He scoffed down two slices of toast, looking up and down the table. He couldn't see any of his 6th year friends. Wonder where they are? He decided once he'd finished breakfast, that he'd search for them outside. It was a decent day so they might be spending it by the lake or the quidditch pitch.
He went down to the lake but there was no one but for a couple of first years and a group of 4th or 5th years sitting on the edge. Neither groups were in Gryffindor. He thought then maybe the Quidditch pitch. He vaguely remembered something about going to the quidditch pitch today. So on his way, he walked round the edge of the Forbidden Forest and to his slight surprise saw Braxton standing on the outskirts as well.
"Look who it is." James smiled though he wasn't all to sure he wanted to meet the Slytherin 7th year on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest. Braxton was a year older than James, not to mention a lot taller and the two of them hadn't got the best history when they had bumped into each other but James was curious as to why the Slytherin was leaning against a tree outside the Forbidden forest so he stopped. "What are you doing here?" He asked suspiciously and doubting whether he'd get a pleasant answer.

be someone he wouldn't mind having a conversation with. He gave a soft sigh and saw James Potter before him. Just great.. if it wasn't bad enough that someone had come and ruined Braxton's alone time, but it had to be a Gryffindor; to make it even worse, a Potter. Braxton didn't try to make a friendly smile. Why bother faking it? "I don't see why it matters to you, Potter." He replied back with a tone of annoyance. [/ul]

James more than expected that he wouldn't get a nice answer not that it mattered, he was used to it by now. He resisted rolling his eyes even though it may have wound him up a little. Instead he said trying to keep his voice pleasant. "Oh it doesn't really matter. I'm just intrigued is all." He shrugged and looked around. The area was deserted. He had recognized Braxton's tone to be displeased and Jamie was going to stay there if it annoyed him.
"As to why your standing outside the Forbiden Forest. Alone." He added the last word as an afterthought though he knew that Braxton wasn't a person who was always surrounded by people. James often wondered whether he even wanted to be alone, preferred it. Jamie pushed away the thought it didn't matter to him.
"Thinking of going in there?" He indicated to the trees and stared into them himself. He knew what was in there he'd been in himself though not very far. He and his friends had been stupid enough to venture inside when a teacher was watching them. They hadn't even checked. They didn't meet anything dangerous or anything to get there adrenaline going as they'd only gone five meters. If that. But he'd heard stories from relatives though he doubted very much that Braxton would care about that.

Braxton repeated whilst raising a brow. "I just might go in there.." He nodded towards the forest. "Though I wouldn't expect you to follow, since it's 'forbidden' and all." He said, hopeful that the Gryffindor would, in fact, stay behind. [/ul]

Eyeing the forest carefully the stories that James had heard weren't too good. Giant spiders, dead unicorns the such. Voldemort had been in there but he was long gone. His father had seen to that. His heart swelled at the thought and he could already see Braxton scoffing at him for not going in there with him. Though the thought of it wasn't too happy James wasn't a Gryffindor for no reason.
"Yeah, I'll see it when I believe it." He smirked back at Braxton as if to prove that Gryffindors could do it to. "And I'll follow you in. I could do with a laugh." Jamie wondered after he's said that if the Slytherin would want him with him but that didn't bother Jamie. As long as he was annoying the boy, he didn't care so much.
"Gryffindors can break the rules as well. Believe it or not." On another day with his friends, James would have anticipated a trip into the forbidden forest, some near misses with some scary creatures would have been fun. But when he thought carefully about it, a trip in their with a seventh year Slytherin who had a track record wasn't to clever. But there was no way he could back down now, besides if he got killed, Braxton'd get expelled as well. He would hope.

Braxton totally disagreed with that statement, but he might as well try to mess with him a little. He patted his right pocket, to be sure his wand was there, and looked back up at James. He was almost positive that James just enjoyed doing everything possible to annoy Braxton, and boy was he good at it. "Well then Potter..let's go." With that, Braxton turned on his heel and began walking into the forest, looking back over his shoulder to see if the Gryffindor was following.[/ul]

Jamie's hand felt it's way to his right pocket where he gripped his wand tightly. He was sure that this Slytherin was not to be trusted in the middle of the grounds with a wand let alone in the middle of a dark forest. James had a strange feeling that things weren't going to run smoothly in their journey in here. He could only hope it wasn't a long one.
He dived after Braxton through the trees and followed him, keeping a little behind him at first but he soon found a prickling on the back of his neck and he felt exposed being at the back so he hurried up and kept pace with the boy but they couldn't walk side by side that often as the track was narrow.Trying to sound as casual as possible he said. "Do you have any idea where you're going?"
He scanned the floor looking for spiders he really didn't like those he'd been told that he'd inherited this fear from his uncle Ron. James wondered if you could inherit fears. He wasn't terrified of them but the thought of meeting giant ones didn't take his fancy. No, his bigest fear was drowning and no one in his family seemed to know where he got that from. But the thought of being underwater having no control and your lungs slowly and painfully filling up with H2O wasn't something that James liked to think about.

He snapped, looking around with no luck. It was hard to tell where exactly you were in this place, since your only way of really knowing was memorizing the trees you passed. He had been in this place tons of times, but had never really traveled this deep into it. "Why? You scared yet?" He asked, his voice calmer now. He stepped on a tree branch, breaking it in half, but the sudden snap almost gave him a heartattack, but he'd never show that on his face and kept on moving.[/ul]

He mirrored Braxton by pulling out his wand. He was glad that the Slytherin had done it first and it made Jamie feel more confidant with his wand out though he didn't know how strong any creature in here would be.
A loud snap brought him back down to earth and red sparks shot from the end of his wand. He looked around and noticed the broken branch that was leaving Braxton's foot. He sighed, not too audibly and hoped that Braxton hadn't seen the sparks.
"Scared? You wish." He said slowly looking around. He'd said the words smoothly and scathingly but as James jumped at every sound of a twig breaking and leaves crunching underfoot. The words held totally, no truth. He was scared. Scared that Braxton didn't have a clue where he was going. Though he'd snapped, he'd sounded pretty confidant.
Braxton had told him to keep shut but the silence made him feel worse and he couldn't take it. Besides why should he take orders from a Slytherin. "Where are we going then?" He asked trying to sound calm, he hoped he did. "Surely you know of something or somewhere?" Once again he looked around peering into the trees as he followed Braxton's footsteps. Holding his wand aloft ready to strike. "Or are we wandering aimlessly?"

directions, why don't you lead the way?" He said, moving to the side of James and extended one of his arms straight ahead. "Unless of course, you really are scared of some trees.." He reached down and picked up a fallen tree limb, waving it mockingly in James's face. An idea hit him, one that made him half-way smile at the thought, he just hoped the Gryffindor's confidence and pride wouldn't fail him now.[/ul]

Braxton's mocks seemed to trigger someting inside James that made him angry. He was getting wound up easily again and he wasn't going to make the Slytherin think he was a wuss. "Fine." He snapped back and stepped in front of the boy, he half expected, half hoped that Braxton would stop him but James made sure that he didn't.
He raised his wand and muttered "Lumos" keeping it low so he could see clearly what was on the floor in front of him. But now that he had made the decsion to lead the way, James was regretting it. He didn't have a clue where he was going and just walked taking random turns but trying not to stray from what he thought was the path though they could have lost that ages ago.
Jamie began to wonder how far into the forest they were. More nervous thoughts were hitting him now that he was in the lead. He expected to bump into a werewolf or a giant spider at every turn and he expected Braxton to curse him from behind he realised how stupid he'd been to let a Slytherin walk behind him. But he didn't look back. He didn't want to seem like he was checking up on the Slytherin or that he was scared.

He replied, almost unlike him. The only thing that kept the whole Slytherin look to him was the sly smirk present on his face. He remained quiet as they walked, finding it rather amusing the way the Potter boy seemed to think he knew where he was going. Too bad they hadn't left bread crumbs behind them. Braxton slowed his pace, becoming farther and farther behind James, knowing he wasn't going to be kept an eye on. He chuckled deeply to himself when the light of James wasn't in view any longer. He casually looked around, as if being lost in a dark forest was nothing out of the norm. Feeling extremely giddy at the moment, he turned to head back the way they came. Something stopped him though, another one of those little voices that gave him an idea to make this even more fun. Quietly, he began making his way towards the Gryffindor once more, until he finally spotted the light of his wand. He smiled and ducked behind a nearby tree. He walked like that for at least ten minutes, creeping behind trees, until he finally was a few steps ahead of James. He then jumped out onto the path, right in front of the Gryffindor giving an excited, "Boo."[/ul]

They had been making very little noise as two people walking so James was unaware that four footfalls had become two and not once did he glance around he kept walking determinedly with no destination in mind and no reasons to stop or suggest that they turn around though his brain was rapidly thinking through them.
He was just about to suggest that they go back because there evidently was anything here. [Jamie was surprised they hadn't met anything yet.] When a large figure jumped out in front of him and shouted. Jamie didn't make out the words because as soon as he had saw something move he had shouted. "Argh!" And then raised his wand all in quick succession and roared "Petrificus totalus!" Not troubling to keep his voice down the whole forest would've heard his shout.
James didn't know what his spell had hit, he'd jumped a foot in the air and had been scared to death by the sudden appearance of something and he lowered his left arm slowly that had been instinctively raised to cover his eyes to mask the horror that might've appeared. He lowered his arm to reveal if his spell had hit or not and what the thing was.

, unable to move anything at all. The fact that James had a wand on him and ready, hadn't really occured to Braxton when he had decided to jump out at him. It was never really Braxton's way to think before he did, well.. obviously. Oh how that git was going to pay whenever Braxton could, you know, move. Rigid on the forest floor, well... that was new. The stupid Gryffindor probably thought Braxton was a giant bug..a giant, talking..bug.[/ul]
